Biomass Operations

Ampersand California Biomass Fund I has a 40% interest two biomass facilities with a combined installed capacity of 25 MW. Biomass facilities use a number of types of wood waste, construction waste, agricultural products, and other types of organic materials.

The Chowchilla and El Nido biomass power plants are located in Central California. The Chowchilla and El Nido facilities are fueled with urban wood waste and other organic wastes. Chowchilla, in operation since the spring of 2008, and El Nido, expected to be in operation in the summer of 2008, will help achieve California's goal to meet 20% of the state's electricity consumption with renewable energy sources by 2020.

In addition to investments in these biomass facilities in California, we are currently investigating biomass opportunities in New England.

Hydro Operations

Ampersand North American Hydro Fund II focuses on investing in hydroelectric facilities in the Northeast United States and Canada. The fund currently holds two assets with a combined installed capacity of 5.75 MW, with annual generation of over 23,000 MWh.

Ampersand Sebec Lake Hydro is an 867 kW run-of-river facility located in Central Maine. On average, Sebec produces in excess of 3,000 MWh of electricity, enough electricity to power over 300 homes.

Ampersand Energy Partners recently acquired the Gilman hydroelectric power plant, a 4.85 MW run-of-river hydroelectric facility located in Northeast Vermont. On average, Gilman produces over 20,000 MWh of power each year, enough power to meet the annual electricity needs of over 2,200 homes.

In addition to our current hydroelectric assets, we are currently in varying stages of examining several investments in small hydro facilities in the Northeast US.
